I've always had alittle fear or anxiety about sharing new songs that I have written with other band members. Its like putting your heart out there a bit and just waiting to hear what people think. Well after playing with my band from Riverview church now for just over a year we decided we had to start writing our own tunes. Last night we worked on two of my new praise tunes and they are sounding pretty dang good, and also started to work on one of Sean's idea's. Im excited because there is actually alittle talk of making a full length CD, maybe this fall. Yeah

So its July 2nd and I have 52 days till I turn 30. CRAP! I think I have only scratched a couple items off my "Bucket list" up to this point. I've always said that life is about the stories and what you do with the time you have. Its about getting ejected from softball game's, jumping off cliffs snowboarding and dislocating shoulders, spending time with friends over drinks while enjoying a nice summer evening, and watching kids grow. I always said I wanted to do the IronMan by the time i was 30............. did'nt happen. I'm running my first half marathon this summer but a far cry from pure body torment that is "The" IronMan. Im starting to make that old man groan type noise every time I bend over or get out of bed, and I swear something new hurts everyday (its the heel of my foot today). Having kids sure did change me more than I ever imagined and I take more pain meds than I ever thought I could. I went from wanting to Heli-board in Alaska to being cool with cruising in some deep powder in boyne, from wanting to skydive to riding the Tower of Power every few years at Cedar point. From wanting a 1300 cc motorcycle to looking at mopeds on craigs list (to save on gas of course) Wow. I'm thinking it may be time to redo the bucket list, maybe a "mid-life version".

This past weekend we found ourselves at the Michigan youth wrestling state championships. Christian had qualified to compete by winning his regional. It was a madhouse. I'm not sure of the numbers but there had to be a couple thousand kids there to compete. Add their moms, dads, family and friends and you get a chaotic mess. Long story short Christian went on to win the state championships in his 52lb class, and make us so very proud, but in addition to that he taught me a lesson. This could have been a situation were a 6 year old says "Um, am I in the right place"? and be totally overwhelmed. Yet Christian took the task at hand head on and conquered it with no fear, stress, or sign of uncertainty. When he found out that he had to wrestles for 2 days straight to reach his goal he could have quit before he even started, some did. Thinking the road was too long, or the climb to steep.
As adults we fall into this trap all to often. We have stopped dreaming, stopped thinking bigger than our currents self, and refuse to think of what we could be or could accomplish. This past weekend I looked into the eyes of a six year that had no question of purpose or his resolve to reach his goals. I thank God for kids and especially this one, and the fact that they can teach a 29 year to stop taking themselves so seriously and just let go. Thanks CJ
